Asthma

We've discovered that Tyler has asthma. Poor kid has been put on a nebulizer for breathing treatments 7 times in 10 months. The first time in May 2008, the 6th time was just 3 weeks ago before we left for Cabo and the last one is currently going on right now.

Chad was working in Long Beach last week, staying with my sister, and Tyler and I drove out on Tuesday afternoon to surprise him and stay the night with everyone. Ty slept in the guest room, no big deal, only my sister and Cris have 2 cats, and the guest room is pretty much the cats hang out. Well he woke up on Wednesday morning with a runny nose, a bit of a cough and a little sneezy. We thought it was do to the weather change and everything and possibly something to do with the cats. Symptoms continued through to Thursday and then Friday morning he woke up with the same symptoms but a little wheezy. We still had the nebulizer medicine left from a few weeks ago so I gave him a treatment and off to work I went, leaving Tyler with Chad for the day. Chad called me around 2 saying Ty had been miserable all day and was having a hard time breathing, even after doing another treatment around lunchtime. I called the Dr's and met the 2 of them there about an hour later. Poor Tyler looked 10x worse than when I left him just a few hours prior (same thing that just happened a few weeks ago). They did a treatment right away in the office and monitored him for the next 45 minutes or so there. We were then sent over to JFK to get a chest xray done to make sure he didn't have pneumonia since his lungs still sounded pretty wet and flemmy. X-ray turned out clear so that was good but all in all, we believe Tyler has asthma, which is triggered by allergies and he most likely has a severe cat allergy that triggered it this time. Going untreated for a couple of days will make it turn into this... He's finishing out the breathing treatments right now for the next few days until his chest clears up, as well as taking an oral steroid that is making him super irritable and cranky... I can't wait to have my happy and healthy baby back after all of this!! We're testing out an allergy medicine right now that he'll take everyday for the next couple of months to see if it lessens the frequency of having to go on treatments and if it does, then there is a link!! Good news now that we have a way to prevent and treat this so he's not sick (or at least sounding sick) all the time! Pediatric allergists won't test on kids younger than 2 so until then we're just waiting to see what happens with the preventative medicine...

Tyler has been such a trooper through all of this though and takes the treatments as well as a one year old could. I'll keep you posted...

Adios Cabo

We didn't have to leave the house until noon or so our last day so we got on our suits and headed down to the beach to savor every last minute. We had a WONDERFUL time overall and thanks again to the Malestic's for making it possible. We love you guys!!!!!!! And thanks to my brother for watching our house and doggies all week!! Oh... and having to climb through the doggy door everytime he came and left because the key we left him didn't work... whoops...

Cabo - Dia Siete

Our last full day... bummer!! The week went by waaaay too fast! While Tyler was taking another really good nap, Chad and John did a little shore dive from the kayaks and the girls just hung out on the beach. This then turned into Liz teaching us yoga - hahahaha. It was fun though and could've been really relaxing and peaceful if we got more into it and didn't feel so retarded. Good thing we had the beach to ourselves without any spectators, lol!! After naptime, we all headed over to Rancho Buena Vista, another little resort, and had such a good time! Tyler's swimsuit ended up coming off and we got some cute pictures of his nakedness on the beach. Priceless. I'm sure he'll LOVE these later on in life, NOT! We headed over to Grandma Helen's palapa for dinner that night with EVERYBODY for one last night of all hanging out. We enjoyed more seviche and grilled pargo, still from the 2 speared the day before. Those things were big!

Cabo - Dia Seis

Just our small little group (Lynne, Larry, Lauren, Chad, myself, Tyler, Gabe, Jess, Liz, Beth & John - doesn't sound so small when it's all typed out now) spent the day out on the Awesome boat to do some fishing and spearfishing. Lauren caught a skip jack tuna and John speared 2 pargos. We saw some spectacular sealife again out there - a humpback whale, tons more of the jumping manna rays and dolphins that were soooo close to the boat! We were all pretty wiped out from a full day out there and just hung out at the house, ate Beth's YUMMY seviche (made from John's pargo) for dinner and played Balderdash. And oh my gosh - all of our cheeks hurt from laughing so hard! Good times!

Cabo - Day Cinco

Saturday was a lay by the beach and hang out by the pool relaxing day. We did a lot of both and were able to enjoy it even more with Tyler's really nice nap in the middle of the day. We went to Otra Vez for dinner that night and the food was AMAZING, absolutely to die for! No exaggeration. The best part of the night though was went the entertainment came out... Alex De Pue (plays the fiddle) and Miguel De Hoyos (flamenco guitar). They were awesome!! I believe you can You Tube them and watch some of the their music. So talented! I never knew a fiddle could sound so cool!

Cabo - Dia Quatro

Friday, our 4th day in Cabo, was "Donna's Day." Donna, an amazing woman and very very close friend of the family, lost her long battle to cancer last July. On Friday morning we took out the Awesome and Too Awesome, Theresa's (Donna's sister) boats, to go and spread Donna's ashes. There were about 25 people and we all celebrated Donna's life as we talked about stories and memories that we had with our inspirational friend. The flowers and ashes sinking into the water were a sight to see that I'll never forget. During the boatride, the Too Awesome came across a mama and baby humpback whale breaching. Unfortunately Chad and I were on the Awesome about 15 minutes ahead and missed the sight. When we had passed through that area you could see the whales just swimming through the water but they weren't putting on a show for our boat... We also saw manna rays, probably hundreds, jumping out of the water. It was so neat! We got back to the house Friday late afternoon and the "neighbors," Gabe & Jessica, arrived shortly after to join our trip!
